Saddle Up for Adventure: Horseback Riding at Lake Louisa & Rock Springs

For horse lovers in Central Florida, few experiences rival the feeling of exploring the state’s natural beauty from the back of a well-trained horse. Between the wide-open landscapes of Lake Louisa State Park and the scenic trails of Rock Springs Run State Reserve, locals have two incredible places to connect with nature—and with horses—right in their own backyard.

At the heart of these unforgettable experiences is Lake Louisa Tours and Activities, along with its sister location, Rock Springs Guest Ranch. Both destinations are guided by the vision and passion of Arden Tilghman, a native Floridian and lifelong rider who has dedicated her career to making horseback adventures accessible to families, travelers, and locals alike.

Her mission is simple: to give locals and visitors an authentic way to explore Florida’s landscapes, one hoofbeat at a time.

A Floridian’s Dream, Brought to Life

Arden was raised on a horse farm in Clermont, FL. As a child, life with horses was just ‘normal’. As an adult she began to deeply appreciate the impact that horsemanship and a life with horses had on her. Because of this she longed to create opportunities for others to discover the unique bond that forms between horse and rider.

With that dream, she launched Lake Louisa Tours and Activities, offering guided horseback trail rides through the rolling hills, lakes, and pine forests of Lake Louisa State Park and later expanded to Rock Springs Guest Ranch, a beautiful ranch-style retreat in Rock Springs Run State Reserve, Central Florida’s most scenic, untouched natural areas are showcased.

Her mission is simple: to give locals and visitors an authentic way to explore Florida’s landscapes, one hoofbeat at a time.

Horseback Adventures at Lake Louisa State Park

Located in Clermont and a short drive from Orlando, Lake Louisa State Park is known for its pristine lakes, expansive rolling hills, and shady oak hammocks. On horseback, the park’s beauty feels even more magical.

The rides are designed to be accessible for both beginners and seasoned riders, making them perfect for families or groups of friends. Riders are carefully matched to their horse, ensuring comfort and confidence in the saddle.

In addition to trail rides, Lake Louisa Tours and Activities offers overnight stays in charming glamp sites, guided off-road segway tours, kayaking experiences, and seasonal events. For locals, it’s the kind of peaceful escape that feels worlds away—yet it’s right here in Central Florida.

Rock Springs Guest Ranch: Rustic Charm & Trail Ride Bliss

If Lake Louisa offers a taste of Florida’s state park beauty, Rock Springs Guest Ranch immerses riders in the rustic, pastoral charm of Old Florida. Located in Rock Springs Run State Reserve, the ranch is surrounded by miles of trails winding through shaded forests, wide-open fields, and the Historic Lost Town of Ethel.

Trail rides highlight lush greenery, and abundant wildlife. The herd is made up of gentle, well-trained horses, all with unique personalities and stories. Some are seasoned veterans who once worked in carriage rides or competition barns, now enjoying a second career as trail partners.

These beautiful horses also participate in childrens’ Day Camps, Reba’s Round Up, and riding lesson programs that deepen participants’ skills and confidence in well-rounded horsemanship activities.

Beyond riding, Rock Springs Guest Ranch offers an authentic taste of Old Florida life. Overnight stays are available at the Historic Hammock House and Luxury Glamping Tents year round.

A Big Vision: A Native Floridian with a Rider’s Heart

As the founder, Arden’s story is central to the ranches’ success. A lifelong horsewoman and proud Floridian, she knows firsthand the joys and value of growing up in the saddle. Her passion is rooted in sharing that joy with others—whether it’s introducing a child to their first trail ride or giving experienced riders a new perspective on Florida’s landscapes.

Her approach blends hospitality with horsemanship. Arden believes every rider, no matter their skill level, should feel both safe and inspired while on the trail. Her vision has turned Lake Louisa Tours & Activities and Rock Springs Guest Ranch into destinations where horse lovers feel at home.

Why Horse Lovers Keep Coming Back

Both Lake Louisa Tours and Rock Springs Guest Ranch share a common thread: a genuine love for horses and the outdoors. Arden and her team believe in fostering meaningful connections—between riders and their horses, and between people and the landscapes around them.

For local Floridians, these experiences offer more than just a fun outing. They’re a chance to celebrate Florida’s natural heritage, escape from the busyness of everyday life, and enjoy horseback riding without having to travel far.

Families often return again and again, finding comfort in the familiar trails and beloved horses. Riders appreciate the blend of professionalism and personal touch—every guest is welcomed like part of the ranch family.
